Yikes! Did you have a minor accident while brushing your teeth? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Getting toothpaste on your clothes is never fun. Luckily though, the stain can be easily removed. Wondering how to get toothpaste out of clothes? Avoid embarrassment with our tips and tricks below.
Firstly, Check Your Labels
Check the labels on both your clothing and also your toothpaste. Certain types of clothing need special attention, such as a delicate wash cycle or a dry cleaner’s attention. Cleaning your clothes properly will ensure that you don’t damage the fabric. Your toothpaste’s ingredients are just as important. A whitening toothpaste that contains hydrogen peroxide will need to be washed immediately. This is because it can bleach the fabric.
Scrape Away The Excess
Before you remove the stain, scrape away as much toothpaste as you can. The dull side of a butter knife works well for this. Scraping off excess toothpaste will make the stain easier to work with. Just be sure not to rub the stain in- this can set it into the fabric!
Removing The Stain
Laundry detergent is the best way to remove toothpaste from clothes. It is a gentle and effective stain remover. Dilute your laundry detergent before using it by mixing a teaspoon into one cup of water. Next, gently blot away the stain until it is gone. Afterward, gently blot again with plain water. You can then launder the clothing as usual or leave it to air-dry.
Got Toothpaste on Another Surface?
Toothpaste is cleaned off carpet or furniture fabric in the same way. However, just dilute dishwashing liquid instead of laundry detergent. Blot the fabric in the same way, and you will be good to go.
