Visiting the Dentist’s does not have to be a painful experience if you have been taking good care of your teeth. One of the ways to do this is to maintain a diet that keeps your teeth healthy.

The following foods are rich in nutrients that improve your dental health:

    1. Cheese

A serving of cheese after a meal does a world of good for your teeth. In addition to being highly nutritious, cheese is also very effective in counteracting acid that causes tooth decay.

    1. Vegetables

Crunchy veggies like carrots and celery are rich in fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Fiber makes the teeth stronger and the vitamins provide antioxidants that are good for the gums.

    1. Nuts

Nuts are rich in nutrients, protein, and calcium. They also have low sugar and carbohydrates, making them very healthy for the teeth. Nuts help prevent tooth decay, and chewing them increases the production of saliva in the mouth; leading to fewer bacteria.

    1. Milk and yogurt

Rich in calcium and protein, low in sugar, and very tasty; milk and yogurt are perfect as after-dessert drinks. They neutralize the acids in the mouth, protecting against bacteria and preventing mouth cavities. Calcium and protein also make for stronger teeth and a generally healthier mouth.

    1. Water

Saliva is over 99% water and the more water you drink, the higher the production of saliva in the mouth. Saliva is important because it breaks down food, prevents tooth decay, and neutralizes the acids that cause bacteria. Rinsing the mouth with water also washes away the food debris, reducing the likelihood of plaque and tooth staining.

While these foods will help you get healthier teeth, eating them does not obviate brushing and flossing regularly. Please contact us for more information on dental hygiene and how to keep your teeth healthy.
